The Deltona Massacre: A Chilling Tale of Vengeance and Tragedy
The Spark That Ignited a Bloodbath
At the center of this true crime nightmare was Troy Victorino, a man with a long rap sheet and a short fuse. After being evicted from a home he'd been illegally squatting in, Victorino, 27 at the time, vowed revenge. He believed the group of friends who had reported him to the authorities, resulting in his eviction, had to pay. This wasn't just retaliation. It was premeditated, cold-blooded murder.
With three accomplices—Michael Salas, Jerone Hunter, and Robert Cannon—Victorino orchestrated what can only be described as an ambush in the dead of night. Armed with baseball bats and knives, the four men stormed into a Deltona home where six friends were sleeping.
What followed was a frenzied and prolonged attack that left no survivors.
The Victims
The victims, ranging in age from 17 to 34, were Tito Gonzalez, Erin Belanger, Francisco "Flaco" Roman, Michelle Ann Nathan, Anthony Vega, and Jonathan Gleason. Many of them were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time—gathered for a casual hangout, unaware of the wrath that was coming.
Belanger, whose grandparents owned the home, had allowed her friends to stay over. Little did they know that her decision to report Victorino's trespassing would mark them all for death.
The Crime Scene
There were even signs that the killers had taken their time, suggesting they reveled in the carnage.
Justice Served
All four perpetrators were quickly arrested and brought to trial. Victorino and Hunter received the death penalty, while Salas and Cannon were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The Deltona Massacre became a wake-up call about the dangers of unchecked rage, groupthink, and criminal recidivism. Victorino, a known violent offender, had somehow slipped through the cracks of the justice system despite multiple previous arrests.
Why This Case Still Haunts Us
Two decades later, the Deltona Massacre remains one of Florida's most gruesome and emotionally devastating cases. It’s a chilling reminder that some crimes are committed not out of desperation, but out of deliberate, vengeful malice.
At NexusDecoded, we believe in honoring the victims, understanding the circumstances, and decoding the deeper social truths that often lie beneath these tragedies' surface. The Deltona Massacre isn’t just a story about killers—it's a story about failed systems, misplaced loyalties, and innocent lives cut short.
Let’s never forget the names of the six souls lost that night. And let’s keep pushing for a society where violence is never an answer.
